Episode 058: August 24, 2021

Let’s take a look at what’s going on around the state.

  • Everything is on fire at the moment
  • Redfish, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, cobia, spot, perch, and rockfish are all being caught at the moment.
  • Cast big jigs for the bull reds in the 35 to 55 lb class range
  • Trollers are also targeting them with big spoons, surgical eels, and big bucktails with plastic shad bodies
  • Spanish mackerel are taking small spoons trolled at high speed
  • Another mackerel option is to head to deeper water over the shipping channel and drifting waiting for the mackerel to show up breaking water and casting small spoons, Gotchas, and jigs into the mix.
  • Big bluefish are also showing up mixed with the mackerel.
  • Chumming cut bait and live eels are taking cobia
  • Point lookout is working well for slot reds in the 18 - 27 inch range
  • It’s prime time for spot and white perch as they are reaching their peak size at this time
